New Year's Eve -Hiss, boo
So why is New Year's Eve no more fun at 22 than it was when I was 2. At two I fell asleep probably before midnight and this year I might as well just be sleeping. Going to a party, but I don't it expect it to be anymore exciting than previous years.
Taking a look at this evening in years past:
As a kids it was a babysitter and she let us eat ice cream, cookies and pizza while we stayed up til 12:15pm then it was to bed-if my brother and I weren't already sleeping from our crash and coming down from our sugar highs.
In middle school it was sparking champagne at a girls sleepover. God we thought that was so adult, but really looking back it wasn't that cool. I guess we were among friends and could gossip about boys while we laid in our sleeping bags dreamily looking at Dick Clark on TV (gross-can't believe I typed that).
In high school we tried to get a friend's parents to agree to let us have a party where there would be alcohol and boys, but no one's parents were keen on the idea of boys joining the sleepover (no drinking and driving you know).
Then in college, well I never spent a New Year's Eve in Lawrence, so really just reverted back to those high school days. Oh I do remember last year where I went to Austin, TX with the family and all my expectations of Austin as a mini Boston, MA were let down. Austin is still a cool place though.
Really as I think about it New Year's is overrated. Sorry to be so cynical.
