Someone really hates me...hear the tale of moving
24 December 2006
I am now a homeowner, or condo owner really, but they both have mortgages. I no longer have all my belongings in the storage unit thanks to my family who helped me move on Friday. This by no means indicates that the boxes are anywhere unpacked or even in my new place. Let me tell you the story of my moving day, and most of you who know my struggles with everything coming to Phoenix can only imagine what this tale with tell.
So Friday, I took a personal day from work to move. Dad was off work and my brother in town, so the four of us set out to transfer my belongings from a 8' x 10' storage unit to the new condo. After picking up the Uhaul we headed to the storage unit. My space is on the second floor so moving the stuff from there to the truck would require carrying it to the elevator, down and then loading it into the truck (not a piece of cake, but not hard). Well it became harder when the little flat bed dollies they have at Public Storage were missing. With only a dolly we didn't have to carry all the boxes, but it would be a significant bit more work this way. On top of that Dad decided he needed to go to work and Jason was not being helpful. Of course arguing ensued cause the Flanzers can't do anything without a bit of yelling at each other. Then came the kicker........IT STARTED TO RAIN. Yes, rain. It hadn't rained in the Valley since the beginning of October and it rained on the day I was moving. Someone upstairs really doesn't want things to go well for me.
At first it was a sprinkle ok, it will pass-NOT SO! We finished loading the truck and started to head to the condo. Traffic was horrible, taking surface streets not the best option. Oh and the rain picked up to be heavier. We got to the apartment forever later and ate some lunch hoping the rain would subside. Again NOT SO, it only got heavier and colder. We decided to move the heavy furniture into the place and put the rest of the boxes in the garage (since we could back the truck up right to it and just bring the boxes down without getting that wet.
So as I right this my garage is full of my boxes and the furniture is just put into the place. I will just go through the boxes while they are in the garage and take stuff up little by little. At least the hard part is over. But gosh did it really have to rain.
Note: The day wasn't all bad, because that night I went to my first Suns game with Matt Leinart.
